Travel New York in December

December may be the most exciting time of year to travel New York. The air is crisp and biting, but the exciting window displays on the crowded downtown avenues of New York City are very inviting. The streets resemble a theme-park Christmas display, lined with beautifully-lit trees on Fifth Avenue and plump Santas in every shop.
The horse-drawn cabs that wait in the Grand Army Plaza are decorated with tinsel plumes, and the throngs of shoppers and expensive decorations provide an unforgettable scene. There is also the illumination from the flashing neon signs at night which emit countless bursts of color as you walk along the streets. Any tour of the city should begin on Fifth Avenue, which is a typically American showcase that glitters with bejeweled shops like Tiffany's. The giant Christmas tree outside Rockefeller Center is on display from November through January and ice-skaters are an added attraction as they glide gracefully over a frozen outdoor rink.
